About Me

Some people might take one look at me and think “who is she to give advice on healthy living?”  I am overweight and have been all my life.  My mother was a wonderful cook and we had balanced meals every night when we sat down at the table to eat.  I have developed a deep appreciation for food and cooking is a big hobby of mine, not just a necessity.  I do eat a healthy diet, and I have made major improvements to my eating habits recently including the switch to whole grains and trying to cut out all high fructose corn syrup.  In this day and age, it is so much easier—all the big companies have jumped on the healthy band wagon and are also making widely available products with whole grains, no trans fats, and more natural, organic ingredients.

My problem with having a totally healthy diet is my utter dependence on Oreo cookies.  I also have a passionate affair going on with bakery cake (the kind with the super sweet butter cream icing).  And if Little Debbie were a real woman living today, I might have to make a different “lifestyle choice,” if you know what I mean.

But I have taught a lot of children, and I have listened to all the hundreds of parents I have met over the years, and I am going to try my best to raise some healthy children.

If you are still thinking “who is she…”  I have been a teacher, a director, and now an owner of a child care center.  I am a wife, a mother, a daughter, a sister, an aunt, and a grown-up who still remembers what it was like to be a child.  I was a picky eater, and now I am a picky cook.  And if you choose to buy my book, thank you very much, because now I am a writer, too.
